Christians for 9/11 Truth: A Call to Action

September 6, 2011 in Featured Article

The United States of America was attacked on September 11, 2001. Across the nation people demanded justice for those killed and injured. Who were the perpetrators that carried out these vicious attacks? Why did this happen, and what were the motives? In the days after 9/11 friends, families, churches and communities became unified. They set aside their differences and lifted each other up in pursuit of the truth.

Truthfulness is a key building block of our society. It is the essential virtue that earns us respect and credibility. It is the foundation of rational decision-making. The pursuit of truth is recognized as noble throughout the world – irrespective of religions and culture. Truth should be the goal.  It is essential to any honest and morally upright society.

Christians should understand the moral necessity of Truth. Jesus stood up for truth in all areas of his society. He called out the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of the day. He stood against the violence that permeated his culture and he overturned the tables of the moneychangers who were stealing from the people. If people are serious about Christ, they need to contemplate how they can take a stand for truth in our society.

Few issues today are more greatly in need of a thoughtful pursuit of truth than the events of 9/11. Over 1,500 licensed architects and engineers have studied the evidence surrounding the world trade center destruction and have concluded that the official explanation is false. This official explanation has led to multiple wars in which countless thousands have been killed, maimed and terrorized -actions that are clearly contrary to the Christian teaching of self-sacrificial love and forgiveness.

Christians are called to serve God above any human institution. (Acts 5:29) They should not blindly accept government explanations but rather thoughtfully consider all available evidence and come to their own conclusions. People who care about truth need to seriously examine this issue.

Christians for 9/11 Truth is working to raise awareness of the many unanswered questions of 9/11 within the Christian community. 9/11 Truth is a moral cause – it is a cause of justice that transcends religion yet draws from the moral strengths of our traditions and beliefs. It is time for people of good conscience to take action.

Together we will strive for truth on this vital issue and ultimately bring healing and reconciliation to all affected by this great tragedy. May God bring you peace and hope as we work toward this goal.

An Address to Christians on the Eve of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11

July 13, 2011 in Member Contributed Articles

The following letter was submitted to us by Paul Warburton in London.  May it inspire people of good conscience to stand for truth on this vital issue.

Lord there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty.
Help us O Lord our God for we rely on you and in your name we have come against this vast army.
O Lord you are our God;
Do not let man prevail against you.

Asa’s prayer 2 Chron 14

Dear Christians,

I have been asked to write an article for Christians for 9/11 Truth and I am thankful for the opportunity to reach so many others. I am based in England and run a small law firm helping refugees. I have been aware of the 9/11 cover up since 2007. I hope this message may encourage you.

In a brief space it’s difficult to condense all we know and share about God’s love and justice and then apply it to the most pivotal event of our time. To many of us it makes sense but then if it makes sense to us why aren’t there millions of Christians shouting about this? Why have all the “decent ” people – journalists, politicians, judges, lawyers, police, defence agencies – people charged with the pursuit of justice in our societies, gone silent on this issue too? What’s going on?

I suppose we should have seen the warning signals in the Contra war and the onslaught on innocent Nicaraguans who simply wanted to be free from tyranny. Back then as I was helping to fund medical supplies to get through the blockade. I was aware of the silence of the vast majority of US and UK politicians and church leaders over this wrong. Ed Asner was the only high profile guy I remember saying anything about this. For a young Christian that shocked me that so many people could ignore such a wrong.

So maybe it would help to step back from 9/11 for a moment and all the obvious evidence that shows the Official Account is wrong. (I go as far as saying it was an inside job – whilst respecting others who say there needs to be another inquiry). Let’s look at principles – like what is the nature of God / the Devil / Christian discipleship and crucially Applied Christianity.

It is true that whilst being Christian we will never get a full grasp this side of eternity of what the true majesty of God is like. Likewise we will never fully understand how depraved and evil the demonic is. That can sometimes put Christians in a dangerous middle ground that they may be unaware of. They may think they are close to God when in fact they may be adrift. One of the dangers of living in an affluent and deceitful west is getting soft. Culture easily invades Church. Christian discipleship is about that walk with God each day – but how do we apply it knowing we are in God’s plan?

I got through a reading of the Bible recently – it took 6 months and I was amazed again of how much of it was not preached in church; Spiritual warfare, Justice, God’s love for the oppressed, especially that huge tirade from the Prophets against God’s people for crushing their own people and neighbours. That’s one of our problems as Christians, our teachers and preachers are not conveying the full range of the Gospel. In many ways it’s become narrowed down to personal morality and a status quo as opposed to personal and corporate morality and responsibility.

We have been given so much freedom in the Gospel that many are now taking it as a licence to do their own thing and rely too much on grace. When I have got up and said this in church and applied it to 9/11 a funny thing happened – half the church applauded and the other half were stoney. You wouldn’t think that a message could have two opposite effects at the same time. Church is going through a decline. Those that want to remain in the comfort zone I think will pay a spiritual price for that even if they make it to heaven. But the others do want to see the world made a better place and they will try for it. My view is that the majority of church across the US and UK is in that comfort zone. How to get out of it?

In someways I had a head start in life – I was born into a discomfort zone and that to me seemed normal for a long time – I had no problem seeing how evil some people could be sometimes. When I became a Christian it delighted me to discover a God who loved the oppressed and who was going to do something about it. I was equally shocked to discover a church largely indolent. In the end I tried to rely more on what the Bible actually said than listening to the church leaders. The leaders I heard rarely could connect the word to the world.

The full horror of 9/11 and what it fully represents drains you mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. Added to this most of your friends and family dont want to know. They defy reason and common sense and stick with an old world view that says “our Govt wouldnt do something like this”. Even if they believe you, a lot will take no action on it. Then insult is added to injury – you are called crazy ! The reason people refuse to hear you is not so much about evidence but more to do with they dont want to face painful reality i.e. if they did face it they would have to do something about it. You need to be tough to face that and then keep on campaigning for truth not knowing when the break will come. It’s a long haul. I know for most of you this is on top of your daily duties of being a decent worker, mum dad, carer etc. So let me say here for what you have done so far – thank you.

So here’s some suggestions of things you may wish to consider doing to help keep you going or bring you closer to that coal face of spiritual reality for a deeper walk with God and your fellow human being. I have tried them and found them of immense worth;  read chunks of the Bible at a time, watch good TV documentaries, try and meet survivors of conflicts and listen to their stories, do a listening course, try walking around a concentration camp on a snowy winters day and hear the silence speak to you, visit a desperate third world country and see how it has been deliberately run into the ground, meet the homeless, do prison visits, try fasting, ask questions, keep your body fit for all the attack that comes the way of the faithful – it builds your strength and confidence and gets you into a mindset of what you are up against, take time to study the beauty in animals and plants and creation. Enjoy your down time if its driving or walking or sailing. If people cant do some of this then try taking small steps but please try. Everyone can do something. Ultimately find brothers and sister who will encourage, support, challenge and even rebuke you occasionally for your own benefit. Anyway after all is said and done you are going to get a new body : )

If we don’t nail this 9/11 issue the next thing that will come along will be worse. For those who say the Anti Christ is coming and we can’t stop that prophecy I say how do you know it’s now  ? – it may be 300 years off – in this generation we are being given the privilege to really fight for something that could turn this world around. That’s an amazing challenge and can be done in God’s strength. What kind of world do you want to hand on to our children ?

Finally to put everything in a nutshell as Jesus did so well – “Do to others as you would want them do to you”

Kind Regards

No Time for Celebration

May 9, 2011 in Current events

This past week televisions have been flooded with scenes of crowds across the United States cheering the killing of Osama Bin Laden. However, it is nearly ten years after 9/11 and Osama was never charged with the crime. There will be no trial. No evidence of his guilt. No attempt to get to the truth.

Reminiscent of the 9/11 attacks themselves, we are expected to accept the government’s word that he was killed as described with no proof of any kind. This while they immediately destroy any evidence and change their story of what happened daily.

Regardless of what actually happened with Bin Laden, the effects of 9/11 remain. Our troops and foreign innocents continue to die in needless, unjustified and immoral wars. Our country is going bankrupt pursuing a militaristic foreign policy. Our civil liberties are being systematically stripped away.  Will any of this improve with the death of Bin Laden?

This is certainly no time for celebration. Instead of mindlessly following establishment propaganda, people should seriously question the events of 9/11. They should also contemplate the wisdom and morality of our continued post-9/11 policy.

Real cause for celebration will come when our society once again respects the value of human life and passionately strives for peace and truth.

God’s Word, His Church, His World, and His Truth

December 21, 2010 in Member Contributed Articles

God’s Word, His Church, His World, and His Truth

Man has been at war with God since the fall. By his grace, God designed Christianity to function dynamically within the fallen world. To be effective, the church must have a true understanding of his word and a true understanding of his world. God reveals truth both in his written word, and in his created world. Any denial of God’s holiness or man’s depravity, as revealed by God, disables the church’s mission through promoting falsehood.

There is a concerted effort to distort both God’s word and his world by his enemies. God’s word presents mankind as guilty and condemned before him. Without an awareness of his sin, man has no reason to seek after God for salvation. Man’s denial of this ugly truth keeps him separate from God and causes much of the world’s desperate condition. Only when man confronts this truth about himself can he recognize his need of God. Denying the ugly truth promotes mankind’s continuing defiance of God and legitimizes the evil that man does.

The Christian faith is a reasonable faith based on actual events that left ample evidence for examination. The bible, along with its present day witness, the church, are God’s chosen means and method for spreading his message to mankind. The central evidence involves the miraculous, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion. It was attested to by eye witnesses, who eventually recorded their testimony within the New Testament. The grave was opened, the tomb was empty, Christ had risen. The guards of the tomb were bribed to lie. Those who had conspired against him in life began to conspire against him in death through the suppression of evidence and the invention of myths discounting the truth. These witnesses themselves were accused of staging the resurrection and promoting a hoax. As time passed, many of the witnesses and their followers would be persecuted and often martyred for their testimony.

The persecution of the true church has persisted to this day. It attempts to weaken the claims of Christ and the faith of the remaining witnesses. It took an organized form early on, soliciting willing bed fellows who were motivated by self interest. The same is true today. It operates in secrecy and makes use of varied levels of deception. It takes both overt and covert forms. It uses both direct and indirect methods. It occurs through infiltration and domination. It may be sanctioned by the “church” or the state. It materializes, not only through individual, unbelieving hearts, but through organizations of unbelieving hearts. Christian’s stance opposing such unbelief is an extension of the battle they experience between the old and new man within themselves.

“That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.”

Ephesians 4:22-25

“Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.”

Colossians 3:9-10

Denial of God’s word may be explicit, but is often implicit, and compartmentalized within the hierarchy of various organizations. The opposition seeks to alter God’s word and misrepresent God and his church to the world at large. More insidiously however, it seeks to misrepresent the world at large to itself, especially through forms of mass media.

It is ironic that Christians, many proponents of “intelligent design” theory, are willing to ascribe the destruction of culture to a type of natural selection. If creation implies a creator, it would follow that destruction implies a destroyer.

God, in his word, sets forth man’s role to govern his creation.

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful , and multiply , and replenish the earth, and subdue it : and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”

Genesis 1:28

In the absence of respect for God’s law, the cultural mandate above degenerates into the law of the jungle. Failing to obey and enforce God’s moral law provides a recipe for societal destruction.  At the present time, one must consider, is society collectively committing suicide, or is it being incrementally euthanized? And who are the individuals and organizations responsible? What principles do they promote and oppose? How do they affect their control upon population?

“The undermining power of sin is always the cause of decay and deterioration in earthly kingdoms.”

Oliver B. Greene

Once these organizations of social influence and control are properly understood, a more cogent, yet more disturbing view of the world appears. Only then, do the seemingly organic, incremental, manifestations of societal decay take on a more conscious and coherent design. Within the church, Christian’s are seldom encouraged to investigate these malevolent organizations of God’s world and there is little tolerance of their curiosity. Organizations adverse to Christianity, seemingly far from the truth, remain a part of God’s world. Ignoring their relevance and influence promotes a sanitized perspective limiting the church’s understanding of, and effectiveness within the world. Embarking on an investigation of esoteric organizations is considered treacherous territory. Those demonstrating curiosity toward the investigation of such are often shamed into redirecting their efforts toward personal sanctification and their personal ugly truth. However, willingly ignoring these organizations perpetuates their virtual anonymity and contradicts scripture’s exhortation to acknowledge, expose, and oppose deeds of darkness.

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

1st John 4:1

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”

Ephesians 5:11

“When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, ‘This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,’ the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything—you can’t conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him.”

-Robert A. Heinlein

To effectively interact with the world, to reason, and share the gospel, Christians must understand all religions and beliefs that make up God’s world regarding their prevalence, falsity, differences, and similarities, regardless of their degree of malevolence to Christianity. Paul describes the full armor of God as provided for this very purpose.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

Ephesians 6:10-13

”For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God”

1st Timothy 1:7-9

The church should not be intimidated by investigations into God’s world especially when it involves the ugly truth of man’s depravity. In the world, similar shaming and intimidation is used to discourage the full investigation of high profile crimes, involving broad political and financial networks. Failing to expose such activities has no place in civilized government or Christian faith. To assent to such secrecy equates to complicity, and reverences the criminal behavior. Denial of evil is a tenant of Gnostics and Cabalists. It is a Christian’s duty to expose evil in the light of truth, both personally and in the world at large. The alternative is to promote injustice and may involve the condemnation of the innocent.

As the guilty seek refuge within secrecy, they employ lies and alibis, fabrications and exaggerations. Scapegoats may be required to deflect responsibility. Such fraud often includes elements of the truth in the service of believability. When premeditated crimes involve two or more individuals they are known as conspiracies. In order to avoid punishment the criminals may plea bargain by either admitting to a lessened degree of responsibility and/or releasing information that people want to hear.

Unreasonable, official explanations for traumatic events of national significance provide a refuge for scoundrels, and an opiate for the masses. Under duress, within the wake of the event, an explanation appears to develop organically, that meets the cathartic needs of the victims and the pragmatic desires of the scoundrels. The truth of the matter is left marginalized and of secondary importance. The explanation defies verification, strengthens existing allegiances, excoriates existing enemies, and most importantly, minimizes the emotional distress of the victims. It demands a misplaced trust in civil authority and encourages a decreased commitment to personal responsibility. The official explanation, by rendering logical inquiry unnecessary, legitimizes the exercise of ignorance in the service of reasoning, promoting the usage of “positive thinking”.

“A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.”

- Saul Bellow

Often expressed as wishful thinking, positive thinking, is perhaps, better defined as delusional thinking, or blind faith. It is the same blind faith attributed to Christians, by skeptics who fail to confront the verity of God, as he has revealed himself. Skeptics are often not satisfied by denying the personal claim the gospel makes upon them. They attack the witnesses and the evidence directly by means of either constructing alternative explanations for supernatural events, or denying the events altogether. Their promotion of God as a liar, or lunatic is simply the echo of Satan’s original thesis. The term blind faith is, in fact, a better description of the skeptic’s faith. For it is the denial of the evidence that produces the “disbelief”, a willful blindness producing “blind faith”. Remove this blindness and real faith appears.

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay   in darkness.” John 12:46

Through the Holy Spirit, mankind must realize his blind, helpless condition, his necessary repentance, and the sufficiency of Christ, to believe God. A willingness to look at the evidence, and come to a reasonable conclusion is the logical ability that God created within man to lead him back to God. Though detractors persist to discount and suppress truth, the church remains a living witness.

Various heresies reappear throughout church history, from a spectrum of directions demanding ongoing attention. Most often, the attacks are directed toward church doctrine and practice. In its defense, the church is guided by Holy Scripture, historic confessions, catechisms, and occurrences of similar attacks from church history. This context, when prayerfully considered, provides the church its ability to distinguish between truth and error. Accordingly this same context is available to the Christian laymen, along with the spirit of God, and a redeemed conscience. The ugly truth of man’s spiritually dead condition before God, and his inability to justify himself is a popular target of the opposition. These attacks may come as bold accusations or subtle misrepresentations. They may come personally, from within one’s own heart, or externally, projected through other’s actions.  The natural man instinctively seeks God’s position by denying the truth about his own depravity, ultimately legitimizing the evil he does in the service of his own will. I recently discovered such a legitimization of evil which had been obscured by a misrepresentation of truth.

I had been on line verifying some Obama campaign rhetoric regarding the proposal of a civilian security force within the United States. Having met with rather quick success, and surprised how easily it was to validate the news through digital cross referencing, I proceeded to look into an event that had logged, curiously, in my mind from several years previous. It involved the collapse of Building 7 of the World Trade Center. I had presumed, after watching the collapse of the building on live television the day of 9/11, that I was witnessing a controlled demolition performed to address a loss of structural integrity, and ultimately secure the area from further mishap. I had heard scarcely any mention of this building for several years after its collapse. Much to my dismay, I soon learned that a demolition of such magnitude requires weeks and months to engineer. I sought out the official report and discovered that no one was admitting to the demolition. My seemingly trivial curiosity had transformed within an instant into a dynamic inquiry of considerable consequence.

As I looked deeper into the matter, I found many more facts that were left under reported, especially with regard to the events in Manhattan. As I began to share my interest in the collapse of Building 7 with others, I discovered the majority of those I spoke to had never heard of the building or its collapse. After nearly a year of investigation through a variety of means and sources, I was forced to accept conclusions that, though incomplete, were seriously disconcerting. The majority of the evidence I discovered oriented to truths dissimilar from the story presented to the general public. I soon discovered that there was an active, effort to suppress easily verifiable information and silence messengers.

Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard”

Acts 4:19-20

As I confronted the seriousness of my conclusions I broadened my inquiry. Beginning with the 1993 WTC bombing, Oklahoma City, and Waco, I worked my way backward to JFK. My inquiry broadened to troubling developments, I had naively attributed solely to the organic decay of a godless society. These included developments within the recent history of psychology, agriculture, education, economics, politics, and medicine. Of special interest, beyond the before mentioned, were the history of eugenics in America, The Franklin Scandal, the work of Dr. Alfred Kinsey, The Bohemian Grove, the Bush family, and the attack on the USS Liberty.

The unsettling nature of my discoveries has radically altered my world view, yet provided authentic desire for me to re-investigate God’s word with renewed enthusiasm. God’s world has been revealed as a much more deceptive and dangerous place. However, God’s goodness, grace, and love have emerged more infinite, perfect, and necessary than ever. Only through studying his word and his world, as he commanded, can we fully realize what it means to trust only in him. I no longer excuse media culture as merely the symptom of a lost world doing the best it can without God. My suspicion of, and toleration for, much of mass media has lessened accordingly. The irrational allegiance ignorance, and apathy it endorses begs several important questions.

First, is the “projection” of popular culture merely reflecting the depravity of our time, or is it complicit in its generation? Secondly, is it possible that the media seizes upon, or stages, outrageous displays to provide distraction, instill ambivalence, and build tolerance for further outrage? Thirdly, is the audience’s attention being directed toward a plausible, but utterly false, and directed perspective of the world for the sake of those in control? Fourthly, what makes the population at large so desirous of shocking and traumatizing fictional experiences, and utterly ambivalent to our country’s present nonfictional engagement in torture and  war? Fifthly, who governs the agencies of information and entertainment that have such tremendous influence upon the population, and why do they remain conspicuously under the radar and out of site? Finally, is it possible that the depravity displayed in the media is merely a decoy for a degree of depravity, so unspeakable and profound, that once uncovered, it would produce the actual fear and trembling prerequisite for repentance and a true spiritual awakening of God’s elect?

“It is as hard for the good to suspect evil, as it is for the evil to suspect good.”

- Marcus Tullius Cicero,

The majority of the populace remains unaware or unwilling to confront these questions. They accept the elegantly deceptive view of the world projected through the media, awaiting spectacles that gratuitously draw their attention away from issues of consequence, allowing them ample opportunity to “express themselves”, within “discussions” that can do little more than advance moral relativism. Excusing distractions of depravity as simply outgrowths of mankind’s rebellion, fueled solely by commercial motives is a mistake. Opposing viewpoints and heated debates do not presuppose relevance. The vast corporate media  network, run by an ever shrinking number of owners, with daily access to an entire population should be under, not above, suspicion at all times, especially as it showcases and modulates ongoing thematic presentations of “outrages” that fatigue viewers into capitulating to their own prescribed, and implied “solutions”.

“Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.”

- Charles Mackay

The most casual observer of the mass media over the past several years must admit the accelerated intensification of “programming”. The highly descriptive, personalized, hypnotic concoction of sex, violence, and trivia, garnished with blasphemous obscenity directed toward the hated group of the day, heated over a sensational flame, producing a toxic visual brew, leaving ”viewers” as numbed and dumbed as any Gnostic mushrooms or witches spell, resulting in a myopic, misinformed, and alienated human condition, unable to sensitively observe, rationally contextualize, affectively love, or legitimately suffer without the aid of a pharmaceutical, or technological crutch, and resulting in a fragmented, fatigued, disconnected, uninformed, and suspicious population of “subscribers” whose awareness of, and participation within the media matrix, offers the universal sociological connection that advances the desired dystopic, global mindset.

“He who is not angry when there is just cause for anger sins.”

-John Chrysostom, Archbishop of Constantinople

“Uncensored patience sows the seeds of vice, nourishes negligence, and encourages good people to do evil.”

- Thomas Aquinas

While most media criticism focuses on content, little criticism is made of the forms it employs to deconstruct the boundaries between reality and fantasy, relevance and irrelevance, consciousness and unconsciousness. Radio and television themselves, far from neutral mediums, are unable to contextualize, or diverge without “losing” the viewer or listener. Like newspapers, they default to simple, isolated ideas, visual symbols, sensations, and sloganeering. Multifaceted issues are simplified to “opposing” views voiced by “spokesmen”. It is curious that our political system has come to mirror such a structure. Two “parties” debate over isolated “issues” outside of meaningful contexts. Content is reduced to a catalyst for “theatrical” performances that perpetuate “viewership”. Viewers then, predictably, sacrifice their allegiance to partisan networks or pundits through a cult of personality.

“A point of view can be a dangerous luxury when substituted for insight and understanding.”

Marshall McLuhan

There are compelling books, and documentaries by independent film makers that offer verifiable, yet disturbing evidence regarding many of the specific topics mentioned earlier. The films however, nearly never appear on mainstream media, and must be purchased or viewed over the internet. While providing information that will spark curiosity, films simply cannot offer the necessary contextualization. This must be done independently, through books, over time. Through one’s own critical thinking, a reality based context develops, along with questions regarding the media’s content, format, and objectives. The more one investigates, the more natural curiosity is renewed. As a result, the media spectacle is seen more objectively as a distractive vehicle for disinformation, and a system of social control, fostering a plethora of sensations, intoxications, half truths and sound bites, leaving the viewer no choice but to become either, predictably reactionary, merely distracted, or mildly confused, but always too apathetic to investigate and verify its content.

“A pervasive medium is always beyond perception.”

-Marshal McLuhan

The media matrix continues to attract and hold the attention of the majority of the populace by default, just long enough to isolate them from one another, narrow their vision, foster their dependence, and discourage their curiosity, by providing a simple, safe, predictable, understandable, nonthreatening, and false world view, where they offer their idleness on the altar of the grand illusion.

“They could be made to accept the most flagrant violations of reality, because they never fully grasped the enormity of what was demanded of them, and were not sufficiently interested in public events to notice what was happening “

–  George Orwell

There is a battle raging for the hearts and minds of men. The opposition promotes a distorted view of God’s word, and a distorted view of his world. Christians must search his word and his world for themselves, paying particular attention to the evidence, seeking out the testimony of witnesses, reading their accounts, thinking critically, and coming to their own conclusions. The church does not deny the world’s attacks to alter the correct understanding of God’s word. Neither should the church deny the world’s attacks to alter the correct understanding of God’s world, especially with regard to the depth of man’s depravity, as it continually shortchanges, and misrepresents itself through its “medium of choice”.

The Necessity of Truth

November 30, 2010 in Featured Article

“You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” –The Ninth Commandment.

Truth is a foundational Christian principle and one of the most basic moral principles recognized by all people, regardless of their religious beliefs. Honesty is a virtue that any morally upright person will strive for. Transparency and the pursuit of truth are guiding principles that are standard for any decent society. The opposite of truth is dishonesty, lies, deception and hypocrisy. Christ calls on believers in Matthew 5:14 to stand out against the darkness of this world “like a city on a hill that cannot be hidden.” Christians must stand for truth and should be examples to the world of people who take a principled stand for honesty.

Jesus was certainly committed to the truth. “…for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.” -Jesus Christ John 18:37

The truth Jesus is talking about is specifically about the Kingdom of God and of the Father’s deep love for all people. In Jesus’ earthly ministry he stood up for this ultimate truth by standing for truth throughout all aspects of life. He called out the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, stood against the violence that permeated the culture of the Roman Empire and overturned the tables of the money changers who were stealing from the people and dishonoring God.

Christians often encourage each other to strive to become more like Christ and to follow his example. Developing a passionate pursuit of truth is certainly a worthy starting point. “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” -Jesus Christ John 8: 31-32

The truth is the basis of rational policy and of moral decision-making. People cannot make proper decisions if the correct information is hidden and not allowed to influence the dialogue. Prevention of discussion is a primary means of keeping truth from being discovered. The concealing of truth is a means of exploitation and is used to divide people, foster animosity between people, and to create justification for treating some people as inferior to others.

It is for this reason that we must understand the truth about 9/11. There are two types of truth that we must pursue. The first is the technical truth about what really happened. It involves answering the basic questions raised by the 9/11 truth movement.

The second type of truth is more philosophical. Regardless of how or why the attacks happened, this tragic event has exposed the need for truth, honesty and openness in our national dialogue and policy. The war in Iraq has already shown how easily we can be lead into war based on propaganda and false evidence. 9/11 would be a deception on a much larger scale. Our response to 9/11 has already killed twice as many Americans as the attacks themselves did. The death toll of our troops is now approaching 6,000, not to mention contractors and the myriad civilians killed. The cost of this militarism is in the trillions of dollars, leading to the impoverishment of people throughout our nation as well as those devastated in the war zone. We must have transparency on this vital issue. We must discuss the aims of our policy and the means by which we implement them, regardless the ultimate cause of the attacks.

The real 9/11 truth is that our country needs to look in the mirror and reflect on our policy of occupation, domination, exploitation and intimidation that we practice throughout the world. Christians should be leading by example, helping the nation to seriously discus the violence of our own policy that leads so many around the world to hate us and to contemplate acts of violence. Christians should be active in helping to break the cycle of violence by practicing the love and forgiveness of Christ. Unfortunately the church today is largely an establishment supporting, flag-waving mass who unquestioningly trumpets the party line.

Indifference permeates our culture. The church is in decline and no one seems to know why. The church seems to have accepted the post modern idea of truth, that everything is relative. In the eyes of many people the church of today stands for nothing. They see it as an anachronism with little relevance to their lives.

“The biggest threat to any religion is apathy born of irrelevance.” -Dr. Sherman Jackson

Nothing is more relevant today than the truth. People are in dire need of the truth about 9/11. We must have a discussion as a society about the unanswered questions regarding this issue. Christians have the ability to broach this topic in the context of their faith. This provides them with the fantastic opportunity of using this issue to inject higher levels of truth into the social discourse as well. We have a moral responsibility to stand up for what is right. The issue of 9/11 offers the potential to bring lasting, beneficial change to our national policy. It is time for Christians to take a principled stand for the truth about this issue.

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant.”   -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A Christian Perspective on Post-9/11 Militarism

November 30, 2010 in Featured Article

You shall not murder. -The Sixth Commandment.

“How many men are necessary to change a crime into a virtue? One man may not kill. If he kills a fellow creature, he is a murderer. If two, ten, a hundred men do so, they, too, are murderers. But a government or a nation may kill as many men as it chooses, and that will not be murder, but a great and noble action. Only gather the people together on a large scale, and a battle of ten thousand men becomes an innocent action. But precisely how many people must there be to make it so? -that is the question. One man cannot plunder and pillage, but a whole nation can. But precisely how many are needed to make it permissible? Why is it that one man, ten a hundred, may not break the law of God, but a great number may?” -Adin Ballou

The answer is that there is no such number. Murder is murder regardless of how many people participate. War is the most immoral and egregious violation of the will of God that people can commit. The fact that human beings, specifically Christians, can find ways of rationalizing this demonic behavior clearly shows the depravity of the human condition.

“Wars are poor chisels for carving out peaceful tomorrows.”  -Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Christian authors have long debated and written about what constitutes a Just War. People certainly have the right to defend themselves. However, defending from aggression should be sharply distinguished from making war on another. Historically Christians have considered wars to be just if they are strictly defensive in nature, operate only for noble purposes and are undertaken only as an absolute last resort. Furthermore a war can only be just if it is executed justly, meaning that there must be clear discrimination between combatants and non-combatants. “The just war doctrine rejects the mindless patriotism of ‘my country right or wrong’ and challenges the citizens to make a moral judgment concerning the wars their nation fights” (Einwechter).

There is no such moral judgment in America. We live in a society that actively supports violence. People enjoy watching the dramatized murder of others on television as if it’s normal.  The 9/11 attacks have and continue to serve the needs of a massive propaganda campaign that plays on this sentiment. 9/11 is used to justify the most terrible crimes people can commit. Because of the attacks, people feel that they are somehow serving a greater good by torturing and killing people. As if by committing these heinous crimes they will be safer in the long run. The media has Americans whipped into a frenzy.  After the attacks, the public’s appetite for murder grew to new heights. People wanted revenge. People wanted blood to flow in the streets…just so long as those streets are in a far off land where people have a different religion.

People are able to support such terrible actions as murder and torture because they lack firm ethical principles. The basis for all ethics is the position that the life of every human being has equal value. However, people unfortunately do not believe this in our culture. People will mourn the death of Michael Jackson or Anna Nicole Smith for months. But when they here news that a CIA drone attack blew up a wedding party in Afghanistan, killing over 100 civilians, it means nothing to them.

“You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war.”  -Albert Einstein

“How can children, youths, and people generally be taught any kind of morality-not to speak of teaching in the spirit of Christianity-side by side with the doctrine that murder is necessary for the public welfare, and therefore legitimate, and that there are men, of whom each of us may have to be one, whose duty is to murder and torture and commit all sorts of crimes at the will of those who are in possession of authority. If this is so, and one can and ought to murder and torture, there is not and cannot be any kind of moral law, but only the law that might is right. And this is just how it is.

And indeed, what sort of ethical doctrine could admit the legitimacy of murder for any object whatever? It is as impossible as a theory of mathematics admitting that two is equal to three. There may be a semblance of mathematics admitting that two is equal to three, but there can be no real science of mathematics. And there can only be a semblance of ethics in which murder in the shape of war…is allowed, but no true ethics. The recognition of the life of every man as sacred is the first and only basis of all ethics.

But putting aside the sin of deluding men into regarding the most awful crime as a duty, putting aside the revolting sin of using the name and authority of Christ to sanction what he most condemned, not to speak of the curse on those who cause these “little ones” to offend–how can people who cherish their own way of life, their progress, even from the point of view of their personal security, allow the formation in their midst of an overwhelming force as senseless, cruel, and destructive as every government is organized on the basis of an army? Even the most cruel band of brigands is not so much to be dreaded as such a government.

The power of every brigand chief is at least so far limited that the men of his band preserve at least some human liberty, and can refuse to commit acts opposed to their conscience. But, owing to the perfection to which the discipline of the army has been brought, there is no limit to check men who form part of a regularly organized government. There are no crimes so revolting that they would not readily be committed by men who form part of a government or army, at the will of anyone (such as Boulanger, Napoleon, or Pougachef) who may chance to be at their head.” -Leo Tolstoy, The Kingdom of God is Within You p.313

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” -Ephesians 6:12

The powers of this dark world must be resisted. Christians must stand united against war and the evil that it propagates. We must seek to stop the use of violence and help disagreements to be settled peacefully. There is no justification for the continued use of 9/11 as a cover for immoral action. Christians must stand up and clearly enunciate this truth. We are called on to spread Christ’s message of peace, forgiveness and reconciliation throughout the world. This can hardly be done through the use of military personnel and “smart bombs.” How should Christians be known throughout the world, as ones who send militants….or missionaries?

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”  –Jesus Christ  Matthew 5:9

The Authority of God and Post-9/11 Christianity

November 30, 2010 in Featured Article

You shall have no other gods before me.
-The First Commandment

Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that he died in our place to satisfy God’s judgment on our sin. By so doing he has restored us to a right relationship with God. We look to our Savior Jesus as the guide, the leader and the ultimate authority in our lives. We pray in the Lord’s Prayer that God’s will be done in our lives and we seek to daily die to the old self and rise to newness of life in Christ, attempting to better model our life after his example. Scripture is clear that God is to be second to no one in regard to our allegiance.

“We must obey God rather than any human authority.”
-Acts 5:29 NLT

One of the most pervasive effects of the 9/11 attacks has been to completely displace this primary allegiance to God and devote it wholly into the hands of the state. This is true not just for the general public, but unfortunately for scores of Christians as well, even though many are not aware of it.

One of the societal traits that has developed after the attacks that made this possible has been a redefinition of patriotism and the elevation of patriotism to one of the highest social ideals. Patriotism, instead of simply love of country, now means unquestioning loyalty to the state. It is not “politically correct” to raise questions about 9/11 or the government’s role “because the government says so.” They, on their own authority, determine what can and cannot be said. The government is in charge and it is now the role of the citizen to accept whatever it decrees as “the gospel truth.” In their vision of the world things now work like this: The government’s mouthpiece, the major media, will tell you what to think. When it says we must launch a war and kill people, you will accept it and believe that it is the right thing to do. We are to put our trust in the state, and the state will provide for us. The state will define for us what is true.

One may certainly debate whether questioning the government is unpatriotic. It is often said that “dissent is the highest form of patriotism” as it is the processes of open discussion and debate that help people to discern the truth.  However, whether it is patriotic or not simply has no relevance for a Christian. The question is really is it right or wrong? Does it further God’s purposes or is it set against it?

“You’re not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can’t face reality. Wrong is wrong no matter who does it or who says it.”
-Malcolm X

The New Testament writers speak of two kingdoms and explain that Jesus has called his followers out of the kingdom of this world.  1 Peter 2:9 states “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Jesus declares in John 18:36 “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.”

As Christians we pray in the Lord’s Prayer “Thy Kingdom come.” It is time that we start looking to this Kingdom and pursing the aims of the Kingdom of God rather than allowing the kingdom of this world, the kingdom of darkness, to set the agenda.

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.”

-1 Peter 2:16

A Christian Response to Terrorism

November 30, 2010 in Featured Article

One of the main goals of the 9/11 attacks, regardless of how they occurred or who committed them, was to inflict a maximum amount of fear into the psyche of the American people. Ever since the attacks this fear has been ceaselessly exploited by the government and media through an unrelenting mantra of “war on terror” and its associated rhetoric. Instead of turning to God for guidance during this frightening time, Christians instead turned to the state and media. They, along with the rest of the public, have been mesmerized by a glistening propaganda campaign selling war and surveillance as a means of obtaining safety. However, safety comes only from God.

“Yes, I am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear? Yet you have forgotten the LORD, your Creator, the one who stretched out the sky like a canopy and laid the foundations of the earth. Will you remain in constant dread of human oppressors? Will you continue to fear the anger of your enemies? Where is their fury and anger now? It is gone!”
-Isaiah 51:12-13

It is God alone who provides for our safety.

“But don’t be afraid of those who threaten you. For the time is coming when everything that is covered will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all. Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. What is the price of two sparrows-one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”
-Jesus Christ Matthew 10:26, 28-31

How are Christians to respond to terrorism?

“You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also. If you are sued in court and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat, too. If a soldier demands that you carry his gear for a mile, carry it two miles. Give to those who ask, and don’t turn away from those who want to borrow.

You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike. If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
-Jesus Christ Matthew 5:38-48

Jesus calls on his followers to act differently than the commonly held world view would have people act.  This teaching of Jesus has the potential to break the cycle of violence that our “war on terror” is feeding. We occupy foreign lands and kill their people, they retaliate with acts of violence…we then feel justified in launching new attacks and they will retaliate as well. We end up in a situation where we authorize predator drone strikes on wedding parties in small Arab villages. Who are the real terrorists? It depends only on what side you are on. Young Arabs will grow up hating America. American children grow up hating Arabs… Jesus shows us a better way.

It is time to replace our attitudes of hate and revenge with ones of compassion and forgiveness. Christians must replace their fear of terrorism with trust in God. We must turn our wishes for security into actions that will lead to a more peaceful world.
